Colorado added 4,900 payroll jobs in May from the previous month, but in a separate survey, the state's unemployment rate increased one-tenth of a percentage point to 4.3 percent, theColorado Department of Labor and Employment reported Friday.
The slight uptick in unemployment, according to a survey of Colorado households, is unremarkable, said Alexandra Hall, CDLE's chief economist. On first blush it may appear to the be the first increase month to month since 2010, based on figures revised earlier this year. But no doubt these May figures will be revised and it could wipe out the slight uptick as it has in other months when preliminary numbers that showed a slight increase were revised, she said.
